Georgetown United was next up in our quest for the Chinese Super League crown as they were one of the only two teams that had beaten us last year in the group stages with a 2-1 scoreline. As they had begin the campaign with 2 lossess, we knew this was not going to be an easy match.
Ramblers started nervously and Georgetown took advantage of that by focusing their attack on our right-back, Max. They launched ball after ball to Ah Hwa who was cutting thru the right like a hot knife on butter. Never known for his pace, Max had to use all his cunning and physical presence to cope with Ah Hwa's blisterring runs. But as Ramblers slowly found their footing, Georgetown was being pegged back by our attacks. And their defence was being run ragged by Keon, Heng, Benni and Poay. However, they couldn't find the back of the net with the best chance falling to Keon when the keeper was drawn out of position and the goal was at his mercy. The nimble flanker took one too many steps to steady himself but by then the Georgetown defence had recovered to block.
And that was to prove a costly miss. As Ramblers pushed in search of a goal, a long ball forward was easily shielded by Chard with the advancing striker hot on his heels. But when stand-in keeper Adrian came out to collect at the edge of the area, the striker nippily got in between Chard and Adrian to steal the ball and poke it into an empty net.
The second half continued in very much the same fashion as raid after raid on the Georgetown goal beared no fruit as we wasted good chances to pull the game level. Poay missed a glorious header and good chances also fell to Keon and Benni. Coach Mustafa even brought on Ah Or to beef up the attack and although he impressed, it was not to be Ramblers' day as we fell to another defeat to Georgetown United for the 2nd year.
Final Result:
Ramblers 0 – Georgetown United 1
