My Two-Cents Worth

"That's what I want, a good spirit in the group because we're not just an 11, we're a squad"

- Luiz Felipe Scolari -

Those words just echoed in my mind when I received Michael's text last night informing all of us that we have 3 tough games in the next 2 weeks - a Daerah game against De' Butterfly on Friday, a Chinese League quarter-final next Thursday, and then a final Daerah game versus Sri Mersing. All of them are must-win matches!

And if we want to get somewhere this season (or year), we really need to come together as a group. Scolari's right, you know... it takes a squad to win games, not just the 11 players on the pitch. Everybody is important, from the Coach, to Management, to the players (every single one of them), right up to the supporters. We've already got a good mix, so all we gotta do is the maintenance. We need to ensure that the harmony's there, that we'll continue fighting as a group.

It's not easy for Management to name 11 players to take to the field, coz all our players warrant a first team place. I understand that some of us would be disappointed not to start and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Just imagine if we had subs who were just contented to sit by the sidelines and watch! Remember Winston Bogarde at Chelsea? The fire is in all of us but we've got to take it on the chin and improve ourselves.

We need to cut Management some slack also coz they've been doing quite a good administrating job so far. But Management needs to come out and be transparent as well... trust our players, have faith in them. They need to provide us with a platform to prove ourselves... that gives us confidence. Hauling players off after 15 minutes if they don't perform ain't the solution. At least give us a half. If he's not performing, let him know immediately. Players on the pitch must also do their part... encourage the guy, help him out.

If we want to get anywhere this year, Management and players, everyone, needs to come together as a team... starting NOW!

i have won EPL many times d..Champions league also i lifted before...so Penang punya titles, i m not too interested..hahaha

seriously our team is strong enuf to mount a serious challenge in any tournament..we need to stay united..the management is inexperienced but trying its very best to manage the team and im sure the players all want to give their all out for the team

tolerance and understanding wud bring us far in this aspect..despite these few weeks, issues and forums kept coming up, but at least we face them..im very sure we are the only team in penang that has a blog and discuss issues pertaining the team impromptu..

our season is coming to a finale very soon...regardless of the results in the next 3 weeks, we can be proud to say that we have tried our best n will keep on improving!!

GO RAMBLERS-ORANGE

My first curious entry from a retired player (though still facilities support until the year-end). Only on-field football wins I have had are the Inter-College Games in 1992 & 1993 (some of you have not even started schooling yet or just born like Ming) and the Inter-Accounting Firms games (I think 2003 or is it 2002). My success in football is generally off the field mainly the first winner of the inaugral Malaysian Fantasy League (based on World Cup 1998 in France) winning RM10,000. Winning in Penang does not pay anything lah!

To retired player:I dont play football for money or fame......I play for the love of the game and i think thats the same for all the orangeramblers player.yeah i forgot ,i dont play football....I live it.Joga Bonito:)

K.M.Ching, your reply was what I was hoping to hear. It proves a point that I was making to Max (Ah Cheng) that Orange Ramblers (unlike the Ramblers currently in the FAP Div. 2) do not need sponsorships or rewards to achieve results as all its players are playing just for the love of football. Current score Jerome 1 - 0 Max (on whether OR needs sponsors/incentives) ha ha (please tell Max)

To retired player: I can ensure u tat all of the players in the team is playing with their heart and love for the game and it's not money or prizes.. winning in penang may mean nothing to you but for a team like us, it means a lot.. we form our team with non super-star rated players and to win it will be a dream come true.. we wan to win the trophy in penang doesnt mean we wan the money or the prizes.. we wan to win coz we wan to be on top!

Thanks yeechard: Jerome 2-0 Max. I take it that incentives such as dinners or a sponsored trip to Hadyai for a friendly match with the University of Songkhla, etc are unneccesary as Orange Ramblers are already well motivated to win.

something is wrong here.why would someone wans to sponsor or give rewards to a team that do not fight hard to win for example ramblers div 2.Are u trying to say that if a team is not playing well and is not playing for the love of the game, people should sponsor them and promise them reward to play better?I dono wats going on here but the statements u make made no sense.we not only play just for the love of the game ,but we all want to take it to the next level and achieve something even if winning in penang does not pay

Hey! We all play for the love of the game but I'm sure if we had some incentives, it'll help hold the group together, rite? Or else "richer" clubs wil start pinching our players with better offers! Jerome, c'mon.. how about a few quid? Hahahaha... Besides, it would be a nice reward for an already successful season.. regardless of the outcome(s).

Jerome, incentives such as dinners or a sponsored trip to Hadyai for a friendly match with the University of Songkhla, etc will be bonus for all the players as most of them took leave jus for the tournament. They sacrificed for th elove of the game. We'll be glad if we get the bonus jus like we work and waiting for Chinese New Year or Year End bonus. haha right guys?

From a KDU coaching perspective, there is money to be won from the ICG but that's not the primary goal of the team.

However with our winnings last year, the guys organised a big bbq and invited everyone involved from both squads to come and join.

I know CRC took their players to Bali after their 1st Division win two seasons ago and that was put to the players before the start of the season. And on training on Tuesday, the coach asked them if they wanted to go there again...

(Obviously parties & trips all depend on your team budget. Usually there is a reward for winning & I'm sure Jerome has something planned if we win Diarra or Chinese League but - WE'VE GOT TO WIN FIRST! - nothing like talking about all this and we lose the next 2 games.)

I'm with Dezy on this one. All the talk about rewards when it comes to time where we should be concentrating on 2 games of the season for us. It's really simple, make it or break it. Til the squad win something then we can sit down and talk. I believe the bigger rewards for us this season is that we can win both the tournament. It's priceless and it's Double, and i hope it will be the starting of OrangeRamblers era.

Let Max, Michael and Jerome sit down and have the talk within themselves. I'm sure the management would come out with something great for the squad but the most important things now win these 2 games and let's go win everything Together~!
